We have an exciting rescue opportunity in the next two weeks at the former home of member Bonnie Vastag. The dates and times are: Wednesday 9/28 and 10/5 from 4:30-6:30 PM and Saturday 10/1 and 10/8 from 9-11 AM. The new owners are kind enough to allow this rescue. Please respect the times listed and do not go to the property at any other time.
The plants available are from the prairie the Vastags seeded in 1996. The plants are suited to dry to medium soil/ tolerating part sun and part shade to all shade. Plant List: Forked White Aster, New England Aster, Sky Blue Aster, White Indigo, Bergamot, Cup Plant, Downy Sunflower, Golden Alexander, Northern Sea Oats, Sweet Grass, Pale Indian Plantain, Ox Eye Sunflower, Prairie Dock, Purple Coneflower, Sky Blue Aster, Stiff Goldenrod, Wild Quinine. There is Virginia Creeper among the plants - native but invasive. You may find Wild Raspberry and perhaps Poison Ivy.
Plant Rescues are a benefit of membership and therefore open to active members only. Membership materials will be available for anyone who wishes to join at the rescue. Dues must be made by check or cash that day. Plan for the weather and bring your own shovels and containers to transport the plants. Recycled plastic grocery bags work well as they help preserve moisture around the roots. For the best success plan to plant your plants that day or the next.
